CLIMBING MOUNTAINS
If you had asked me in 1972 why I liked climbing
mountains
I wouldn’t know what to answer.
I think I don’t know very well the answer now
I don’t know very well that I like it.
I think it’s the strong wind
in your face
when you are climbing.
I think it’s the water running
on the stones and the grass
when it’s raining.
I think it’s the sky fallen down
with thunders.
I think it’s the sun sinning on the flowers
when it’s sunny.
I think it’s the noise of the snow
when you walk on it.
I think it’s your heart
the only sound that you can hear
when you are finally at the top.
